Different platform, same idea

Looking for an F5Bot for Facebook groups?

F5Bot is the free Reddit / Hacker News / Lobsters keyword alert tool that a lot of people quietly rely on. It doesn't monitor Facebook, and almost certainly never will, because Facebook doesn't expose the public APIs that make F5Bot possible. snipegroups is the closest thing to "F5Bot but for Facebook groups" that exists.

Short version: F5Bot is free and excellent for the platforms it covers. We're not trying to unseat it. If you only need Reddit and HN alerts, keep using F5Bot. We exist because there's no equivalent on Facebook — and we built the closest thing we could.

Why F5Bot can't (and won't) cover Facebook

F5Bot works by streaming Reddit's public comment/submission firehose and the public APIs Hacker News and Lobsters expose. It's free to run because reading those firehoses is free. There's no equivalent for Facebook. The Graph API doesn't expose group content, scraping public search returns almost nothing, and FB has deliberately closed every door that would let a tool like F5Bot work.

The only way to reliably monitor private Facebook groups is from inside an account that's a member of them. That's what snipegroups does. We don't run a server-side scraper hammering FB's public endpoints (which wouldn't work anyway) — we read on your behalf, from your own logged-in session, captured once via a Chrome extension.

A lot of our customers run both

The two products are complementary, not competitive. If you're monitoring "my company name", "my product name", or "a competitor's name" — you want F5Bot covering Reddit/HN and snipegroups covering the Facebook side. Different platforms catch different conversations.

A reseller might use F5Bot to catch Reddit posts about "looking to buy a [thing]" and snipegroups to catch the same phrasing in local Facebook buy/sell groups. A founder doing customer-development might use F5Bot for forum mentions and snipegroups for niche FB community groups in their target vertical.
